New spaces provide new opportunities
This year, Saint Agnes Medical
Center began a new chapter in
its 82-year healing ministry with
the completion of a new patient
care floor on the sixth story of the
hospital’s North Wing.
Home to 28 more private
patient rooms and an eight-bed
critical care unit, the $16.8 million
6-North project will give post-
surgical patients private rooms
to ensure the speediest possible
recovery while also providing
needed critical care beds for pa-
tients who need the most special-
ized care.
“What’s most exciting about
the opening of 6-North is the
domino effect it has on other
patient care areas,” says Nancy
Hollingsworth, RN, president and
CEO of Saint Agnes Medical
Center. “The additional space
is allowing us to expand other
key patient care areas to better
meet the needs of our Valley’s
growing population.”
One of the first priorities is
converting some of the newly
vacated space adjacent to the
Emergency Department (ED) into
a Senior ED, dedicated to meet-
ing the unique physical, emotion-
al and spiritual needs of patients
age 65 and older as well as their
caregivers and family.
Watch for more details about
the addition of our Senior ED in
the coming months.

Letter from
the president
It never ceases to amaze me how far
medicine has come. Just 50 years
ago, who would have imagined com-
plex surgeries performed robotically?
Or gene testing to predict the risk of
developing certain diseases?
New research is also shedding light
on major health conditions, like heart
disease, which is the featured article
in this edition of HealthLink. Here
you’ll learn how stress and aging can
put you at greater risk for having a
heart attack – especially if you’re a
woman.
You’ll also discover how hyperbaric
oxygen therapy has brought renewed
life to one local man, learn the ben-
efits of a new treatment for a com-
mon blood clot disorder, get the truth
about good and bad fats, and learn
how to register for special healthy
cooking classes brought to you by
Saint Agnes and our local Whole
Foods Market.
While medical breakthroughs
continue to evolve, I hope your main
takeaway from this edition is the
importance of taking your health
to heart. As you work hard to stay
healthy, rest assured, we at Saint
Agnes are committed to support-
ing you and your loved ones and to
caring for you with the highest quality
and compassion.
In good health,
Seeing is believing
